Enhancing the learning experience

Welcome to Learning Development

From 1 August 2010, Learning Development, the eLearning team, the ICT Skills team, English for International Students Unit and the Learning and Teaching team from APOD have joined together to form a new unit, the Centre for Learning and Academic Development (CLAD) within Academic Services.

For the time being we will continue to provide our services from the same locations. Further announcements regarding these changes will be made on a regular basis.


Learning Development's main areas of activity are:

  • Funded Projects
    The LDU encourages pedagogic developments by funding and supporting projects that enhance the learning experience of students. The LDU will also bid for funding for external projects that will help the LDU achieve its aims and objectives.
  • Support for eLearning
    The eLearning team provides elearning support to schools and corporate services in the development of elearning activities.
  • Training and Skills Development
    The Training and Skills Development team are responsible for assessing and responding to University and school-based information skills and IT training needs.
  • Progression and Retention
    Learning Development collaborates with academic staff to develop innovative approaches to induction and all learning, teaching and assessment activities that enhance the quality of the student learning experience.
  • Embedding Service Learning into the Curriculum
    Learning development works with academic staff interested in building volunteering or service learning into one of their modules.
